About Me

Since stepping down from my position as editor-in-chief of Fort Worth, Texas magazine two years ago—just before 'H' was born—I've had what journalism gurus may refer to as a "creative void." I missed editing. I missed writing. I missed my creative team. But most of all, I missed that feeling of accomplishment every time the courier delivered the first few fresh-off-the-press copies of this month's issue.

As a stay-at-home mom I've worn many hats over the past two years, but all of them were temporarily satisfying. So my husband urged me to just set up a blog and simply write about things I love. No deadlines. No expectations. And most appealing of all, no rules.

Once I took him up on his proposition, I had to decide what in the world I would write about. So I decided to peel myself apart like an onion and create a blog that appeals to all of my layers: natural-born city girl, fisherwoman/hunter, admirer of fashion and all things beautiful, mother, wife and, most recently, country gal.

I've always had an affinity for what some may call tattered elegance. My mother maintained a rustic aesthetic in our home, as well as in their East Texas lake home, so needless to say, I've always been a bit country. I, along with my husband, Philip, son, Hunter, 2, and three labradors, Zoey, Teal and Chance, now live in Parker County, and I can't think of a better place to be inspired by nature's rustic grace. And in doing so, this blog will serve as my creative playground for all things natural and beautifully imperfect. I hope you enjoy your time here.
